Respected Editor,

A news under the headline of ‘জনতা কলেজে মণিপুরী বিভাগে নিযুক্তি’ dated 18-07-2013 was published in your newspaper in the 4th page where I was given bad name blaming my reputation. Regarding the matter, I would like to clarify the following points:

1. India is a secular country and every citizen is allowed to follow any religion of his/her own choice. I feel proud to be a Christian by accepting Jesus Christ as my Saviour.

2. CASTE CERTIFICATES that are issued based on caste and community is not related with one’s religion. MANIPURI (including Manipuri Brahmins and Manipuri Muslims) belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC). Though I am Christian I am MANIPURI and OBC by caste. In an answer of a query, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Silchar also confirmed the matter and send the confirmation letter to the Principal/ Secretary, Janata College, Kabuganj.

3. Regarding my article in a newspaper (Poknapham, Silchar edition)-
3.a. I neither wrote against any religion of any Community nor used any slang words as mentioned in the news. My article was based on ‘Manipuri Matrimonial system’ and it was my research findings and was published in a series of 4 editions in the same paper in the year 2004-05. Many intellectuals and elders of Manipuri Society have accepted the article as thought provoking one and the article gives a new dimension to the study of Manipuri matrimonial system also.
3.b. Researchers can never be anti social persons. They express whatever they find in their study. The Indian Constitution also gives the freedom of expression to every Indian citizen. I,  as a researcher, did the same. The lines in the news are a big BLAME GAME and I do really feel very unfortunate.

4. The above problem arises because of-
4.a. I applied for a post of Asst. Professor in Manipuri which was lying vacant in the Janata College, Kabuganj (September, 2012).
4.b. An Interview was held on 23rd April 2013 and my name was in the first in the panel list.
4.c. The Governing body meeting of the college was held on 12th June 2013 and approved the panel list.
4.d. In the mean time the second candidate, Dr. Ch. Bijando Singha in the panel list asked me to surrender the post. He called me over phone and asked the same and the President of Governing Body, Janata College and two more Manipuri elders also called up for him. At least he has asked me six times to surrender the post. He offer me a huge amount as bribe, however, I denied his proposal.
4.e. He even sent young group of people to my house. Luckily, I was out of station at that time. They met my mother and asked my mobile number. But my mother refused to give them my contact number.
4.f. In the mean time, an unknown person introducing himself as a member of the Governing body, Janata College, Kabuganj, threatened me over phone. (I have his mobile number in my mobile.)

He tried all his nasty efforts and failed. Then, he started a condemnable BLAME GAME by misleading the innocent Manipuri MEIRA PAIBI and other innocent villagers. Whether United Manipuri Association Assam (UMAA) is involve or not, it will be clarify soon.

At last, I would like to request all my dear and respected Manipuri loving elder and younger people not to believe such type of false propaganda and not to listen from a cruel, trickery and selfish person like Dr. Ch. Bijando Singha.

Yours faithfully

Dr. H NIRENDRA SINGHA
